In partnership with ECOWAS CEDEAO , the GOGIN II project organized a training workshop on the use of the YARIS 2.0 maritime platform from July 8 to 10, 2024 in Abidjan for the benefit of maritime centers and actors in zone F of the ECOWAS zone (Coast of Ivory, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, FCWC).
This new YARIS version offers a better user experience and new functionalities for maritime surveillance and maritime information sharing. This training will allow optimal use of YARIS 2.0 by its users during the GANO 2024 maritime exercise.
ECOWAS, represented by Ms. Odette KOUAO, welcomed the contribution of YARIS as an effective tool for the fight against illegal activities at sea, in particular IUU fishing which is a major concern in the region.
The trainees highlighted the major progress between the initial version of YARIS and the YARIS 2.0 version. This user feedback will be shared with the Yaoundé Architecture authorities as part of ongoing discussions between them, the GOGIN II project and the EU on the transfer of ownership of YARIS to the region.
The training ended with a closing ceremony, with presentations from the representative of SEPCIM- AEM, CRESMAO EIMS and ECOWAS and GOGIN II.
All the speakers welcomed the fruitful partnership between the European Union and the Gulf of Guinea region in the service of maritime security and the blue economy and called for its deepening.
